12 Trendy Christmas Gift Ideas For Children

Zaina Parekh 12/10/2016

With Christmas around the corner, it is time to start thinking about what you could get for the little ones this year. You want to give them something they can keep reusing, as well as something they could learn from and yet have fun with. It’s always difficult to please the little ones. They are always the most picky and if they don’t like something they would openly throw a tantrum.

Many of you might already be getting hints from the little ones about what presents they want from ‘Santa’. If not, to avoid the tantrums and sulking, get them a trendy new toy that everyone is playing with. Coming up with ideas is tough, when we were kids - we got excited just by the idea of Christmas. A colouring book, a barbie doll, a new basketball or new shoes - even the smallest things made us happy. With children these days, it’s more complicated.

Here are a few of the trendiest toys in the market that every child secretly hopes to get.

The Force Awakens - Everything Star Wars

With the recent release of episode VII and the very anticipated 2017 release of episode VIII, Star Wars is one of the most spoken about topics on social media and in schools. Every child wants a Darth Vader mask or Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber. Bring Star Wars home with these gift ideas.

1. A Life Size BB-8 Droid

These are remote controlled droids that look, sound and function exactly like those in episode VII. Watch your children learn to master leadership skills, as they control and play with this new toy. You can even download the BB-8 app on your smartphones and track the droid’s movements, in turn tracking your children.

2. Stormtrooper Bathrobe

Make morning showers before school more enjoyable by wrapping them up in a stormtrooper bathrobe before putting their uniform on.

3. Lego Star Wars

Be it a replica of the Super Star Destroyer, The Death Star, The Millennium Falcon or just a set of Star Wars characters in lego form. Watch your children build these up and play with them all day. Building lego teaches them focus and concentration and the Star Wars theme keeps them psyched!

4. R2-D2 Hoodie

Be prepared for some robot noises and talks though.

5. Darth Vader Desk Lamp

Glam up their room with a new study table lamp that looks like a bobble head Darth Vader and watch them read or study even if they don’t want to - just so they can use the lamp.

It’s All About The Flight - No More Cars

A few years ago, remote control cars were the “in” toys - there are still some new hi-tech remote control cars that some kids would love to own, however the new “in” toys are kids drones. Even with those, the hype began with helicopters that came with attached strings, then went to cordless high flying helicopters and is now at everything more than 2 wings.

6. The Ones With 4 Wings

Kids quadcopters are basically like helicopters, but faster, sturdier and cooler! They are drones with 4 wings that help the toy fly higher, but also has a more firm casing so the drone does not break after a fall. Enhance the little one’s hand-eye coordination with this trendy toy while keeping them outdoors this summer.

7. The Ones With 6 Wings

Hexacopters too are gaining a lot of popularity very quickly. These are slightly heavier and more complex than the former. These would be better for slightly older kids - or those that have already mastered the quadcopters.

Board Games

Monopoly, Scrabble and Ludo were hits for us as children, Snakes and Ladders even. Board games these days are far more complex than those. This year 2 board games topped the charts at most Game Of The Year Awards.

8. Codenames

Pronounced “Code-Names” is a game that enhances language and communication skills. It also teaches children to pay attention to details - all while they have a great time with friends and family.

9. Isle of Skye

Isle of Skye is actually one of the most scenic places in the world. Now turned into an interactive and creative board game for children.

Things With Wheels

Everything on wheels is welcome. It’s fun, it’s fast, it’s convenient, it means they have to walk less and yet stay outdoors in the fresh air more.

10. A Scooter

Have your children do a quick grocery run for you with the incentive that they get to ride their new scooter!

11. A Go-Kart

No, not the massive ones we see at go-kart circuits, but go karts for kids. They are completely safe, and extremely fun to ride around on.

12. A Bike

Cycling is a great physical activity and a very useful mode of transport. Start early and train the young. Watch them soar through the neighbourhood and race with friends.
