Tell us a bit about yourself…
I am 26 years old and was born and raised in South Africa. I moved to Melbourne in 2011 and started gaining weight from binge eating and a dangerous binge and restrict cycle! Thankfully I managed to turn my life around, lose some weight and become fit and healthy! I graduated last year with my fashion degree but am currently working in the fitness industry as a head trainer at F45, I also own my own online coaching business (Pretty Strong PT) and I am an IFBB Bikini Competitor.

What inspired you to start up your Instagram and share your fitness journey?
I wanted to show girls that it is 100% possible to turn your life around and become fit and healthy, even when it seems like that dream is completely out of reach. I was severely lacking self-confidence and I was so unhappy with my life and how I looked. I thought I would never be able to look at myself in the mirror and actually like what I see. I had a really negative body image but I realise now that it was never about what I looked like physically, it was the mental side of things as well. My body just needed to be treated with the respect that it deserved!

I wanted to change people’s views on the health and fitness industry and make people understand that in order to lose weight and be healthy, you don’t have to spend hours in the gym, or in the kitchen meal prepping boring chicken and broccoli for every meal! It can be fun and completely enjoyable!

Tell us a bit more about what your social media/ blogs include...
My YouTube channel includes videos about my training, some amazing healthy recipes, what I eat in a day videos and just general lifestyle vlogs as well. It was originally made to document my bikini competition prep but I actually competed yesterday so now it’s just going to be a general health and fitness YouTube channel!

What is your go to healthy, fast and affordable meal to make on busy days?
A salad! I love my big bowls of salads! I usually just buy a bag of shredded lettuce from the supermarket ($2!) and just chuck in whatever veggies I have in the fridge, add some chicken or turkey and that’s it – all done!

What are most common misconceptions you hear about when it comes to diet from your clients?
That you have to starve yourself in order to lose weight! What most people don’t understand is that often the reason they aren’t losing weight is because they aren’t eating enough!

For those that don’t go to the gym – what exercises do you recommend?
If someone isn’t going to the gym at all – I would recommend just going for a 20 – 30 minute walk outside every day. Just to get the blood pumping and soak up some vitamin D. Going for a walk often helps me to just unwind after a long day! If you are new to the gym and are looking for exercises, I would definitely start with simple machine exercises as machines often have instructions on how to safely perform exercises. Form is the most important thing when weight training – if you’re not sure how to do something, ALWAYS ask someone!


If we gave you a budget of $20 for the week – what are the top 5 items you would consider purchasing?
Oats (I can’t live without them, plus an entire kilogram only costs $5!)
Chicken – I usually buy the tenderloins and cook a big batch at once so I’ve always got some ready for me in the fridge!
Lettuce – Lettuce is really cheap and adds so much volume to any salad! It’s quick and easy!
Peanut Butter – My other necessity!
Almond Milk – I have an amazing protein ice cream recipe that I literally eat every night and this is one of the ingredients – have to have it!

What motivates you to stay fit and healthy? How do you avoid “bored eating”?
Staying fit and healthy has become my lifestyle now. I couldn’t imagine it any other way. I love the feeling of knowing that every day I am working on making my body better, knowing that (almost) every meal is fuelling my body to be the best it can be. Every workout I complete is making me stronger, mentally and physically and that motivates me so much! I’ve also been lucky enough so build up some amazing support over my social media and my amazing followers keep me motivated!

Bored eating is very easy to give in to but if I think I am about to start eating just because I’m bored, I think about when the last time I ate was, if it’s longer than 2 - 3 hours ago, it means I’m actually hungry so I’ll make a small snack. If not, I’ll just chug some water and get on with my day!

Do you exercise at home? If so, what is your go to work out that our readers could do?
Yes sometimes I do! I like doing full body circuits at home when I don’t have the time to go to the gym, I suggest buying a set of light dumbbells or a resistance band – you can get in some really effective workouts with just these items!

Legs: squats, walking lunges, glute bridges, plyo lunges, step ups, resistance band kickbacks
Core: sit ups, crunches, jack knives, planks
Upper body: push ups, tricep push ups, bicep curls (using heavy objects around the house or a resistance band), resistance band shoulder raises etc!
