The world famous company was founded in 1881 by Kintarō Hattori when he was just 21 years old. It all started when Kintarō Hattori opened a small jewellery and watch repairing shop in Ginza area of Tokyo, Japan. After several years Hattori began to produce clocks under the name Seikosha. Seiko is a Japanese word that means "exquisite" or "success". In 1895 Seikosha released its first pocket -watch, called the ‘Timekeeper’. Foreseeing the growing demand for wristwatches, in 1913 Seikosha produced the ‘Laurel’ with a 12-ligne movement. When the Great Kanto Earthquake hit Japan in 1923, it destroyed the Seikosha factory and their stocks. However, Hattori quickly managed to rebuild with his powerful determination. As a result in 1924, Hattori introduced the first watch with the name “Seiko” on the dial. Today Seiko is also the official timekeeper of many major sporting events. The company is focused on constant innovation and high quality designs, while being eco-friendly.
