This 4-in-1 stick vac has a powered anti-tangle beater bar that gives you a deep and powerful clean with less than 5% hair wrap and up to 80% more pick up on carpet to leave your home spotless. It also has a three-speed setting to let you vary the speed to suit the job at hand while the transparent easy to empty bowl ensures your hands don't get dirty.

I chose this Black and Decker model because Choice advised that their portable vacuum cleaners under $250 were good value, although not as good as other brands that cost about $1000. The 36V motor seems to have plenty of power and is claimed to last for 78 minutes on the Low power setting. (The battery is replaceable and is similar to those in B & D power tools.)
