A Religion of One's Own : A Guide to Creating a Personal Spirituality in a Secular World

A Religion of One's Own : A Guide to Creating a Personal Spirituality in a Secular World

The New York Times bestselling author and trusted spiritual adviser offers a user's guide for people who want a life of deep personal meaning in the modern world.

Whether we are agnostics, atheists, seekers, or devotees of a specific religious tradition, it's possible to fill the gaps in our lives between the spiritual and the secular. Moore reveals how by paying attention to our inner guidance, seeking out mystical experiences in nature and art, and doing the service we feel called to do, we can find a sense of purpose that satisfies us spiritually, intellectually, and emotionally.

Drawing on his twelve years as a monk; the best that the major religious traditions have to offer; and the wisdom and experiences of writers, thinkers, and artists as varied as Thoreau and Emerson, Thomas Merton, Anne Sexton, Emily Dickinson, Georgia O'Keefe, James Hillman, Carl Jung, Simone Weil, Glenn Gould, and Rene Magritte - among others - he shows how we can create lives that feed our soul. Intelligent and thought-provoking, inspiring and beautifully written, A Religion of One's Own is the key to an amplified inner life and a world of greater purpose, meaning, and reflection.
