5 Latest Interior Design Predictions

Interior design is subjective; sometimes we see things that are on trend and think “how on earth did that make the cut?” There are other times when we’re like “oh thank god that trend is back!”. We can never really tell what will be the next big thing; it’s usually an organic process. However, we have some predictions about the next big thing in interior design.

Time To Go Green Or Go Home

Tania Bell from Green Room Interiors offers her prediction for the next big thing in interior design. “The sustainable homewares and furniture merchants are becoming more of a voice in the consumerist society we live in today. So with the rise of these conscious suppliers, we will see a surge for these types of goods. Companies that care about where their furniture and homewares are produced and how will be the go-to suppliers for many interior designers when sourcing products. People such as Sugar Cane Trading Co who import beautifully hand-woven rugs and floor cushions from India and are made from recycled clothing such as old denim jeans are paving the way for this demand.” Find out more about Green Room Interiors by following them on Facebook and Instagram.

So Long, Scandi

Gina Ciancio from Style Curator offers her prediction for interior design. “For many years the restrained and often monochromatic Scandinavian style was the dominant interior design trend in Australia but we’re seeing a shift now towards more warm, layered and colourful interiors. There’s a growing appreciation for natural and more tactile materials – not just in decor but textured wallpapers and paints too. Also, we’re seeing a greater awareness of sustainability in manufacturing and storytelling of ‘the maker’. For example, furniture and décor are made from recycled plastic bottles. This newfound consciousness is steering consumers and trend leaders away from mass-produced items and this is certainly influencing design trends.” Find out more about Style Curator by following her on Facebook and Instagram.

Into The Blue

Blue is the new pink, according to trend reports. Layering different shades of blue is a great way to add depth of field to your space, whether it be using a navy blue armchair on top of a plush rug in cerulean. Blue is a pretty versatile colour, and it suits every kind of decor, so it’s a nice and easy colour to incorporate into your home.

Writing’s On The Wall(Paper)

Julia Hill from Luxe Walls shares her expert advice for the next big thing in interior design. “Wallpaper is the next big trend and can be used in homes of all sizes. Luxe Wall’s customised, removable wallpaper is the perfect way to personalise your space and can be used in all varieties of rooms.” Find out more about Luxe Walls by following them on Facebook and Instagram.

Curved Furniture Is Coming Round The Bend

Another huge trend coming our way has soft edges. Curved furniture is a big trend heading our way, whether it be a curve-edged couch, an entertainment unit with soft corners or round mirrors. They can make a space look softer and more spacious and they won’t hurt you as much if you bump into them. What’s not to love?

Interior design is like pineapple on pizza; some people love it, and some people hate it. Whether you’re a lover of these trends or not, prepare to see them everywhere you turn. They said millennial pink wouldn’t be a big thing and look where that got us!
