Carolyn Broomfield (@New.horizon.fitness)
Carolyn Broomfield is a Gold Coast based nutrition coach and personal trainer, as well as a mother! Although she was fit and healthy throughout her childhood and early adult life, things took a downwards turn in her 40s, due to the stress of running her own business during the Global Financial Crisis. Finally, in her 50s she decided to make a change and managed to lose more than 30kgs! Now, she has managed to build a business based on helping others to achieve their own goals in health and fitness. She even runs free core strength classes from her Highland Park gym every Monday night! Kylie Anderson (@be_your_radiant_self)
Kylie Anderson is a wife and mother to a 2-year old girl. She is also a personal trainer, holistic health coach and reiki practitioner, who is extremely passionate about women’s health, happiness and wellbeing. She makes a point of maintaining a balanced diet, both for herself and her daughter. She also goes to a gym with a kids corner, so her little girl can stay amused while she works out! She suggests that other mothers ensure they leave enough time for themselves in the day, even if that means getting up earlier, or making use of nap time to do exercises that work with your routine, or make healthy snacks! Check out Kylie’s blog, Be Your Radiant Self, Instagram and Facebook.
Susie Campbell (@littleblackbookmarketing)
Susie Campbell has found balance between being a wife and mother, alongside running her own business and keeping fit! She ensures to write down when she is going to exercise in her diary to be certain that it gets done. One of her tips is booking her children in for 2 hour slots at the creche - this gives her an hour to get her workout done and then an hour to get some work done while they play. She worked out that the cost of the gym membership was lower than paying for additional childcare anyway, plus she has the added bonus of being able to keep fit and healthy! She was previously a PE teacher, and was in the military, but getting back to exercising after a tough second pregnancy proved challenging. Nowadays, she is feeling fit and fabulous and even ran her first half marathon last year! Check out her website, Facebook and Instagram pages!
Danielle Williams (@activechicks)
Danielle Williams is a mother to five children - Brandi (13), twins Kobe and Jack (11), Trae (4) and Daisy (7 months). She is 32 years old and has worked in the fitness industry since she was 16 - so for half of her life! She currently runs her own business, Active Chicks, which you can check out on Facebook and Instagram. She does her workouts at home alongside the children and once a week they even do a family run, with her husband! She also promotes 20-minute home workouts that are easy to fit around children and work. She and her husband also meal prep for the entire week on Sundays, so that they are prepped and ready to take on the busy nature of their lives, and are able to stay healthy eating nutritious meals!
Katherine Pandelides (@kathypandel)
Katherine Pandelides is a 51 year old mother to 4, including triplets! As a young woman, she did very little exercise and only started exercising regularly after her first daughter was born - beginning with lots of cardio and aerobics classes! With her second pregnancy, (the triplets), she was back in the gym 16 weeks after giving birth, in order to strengthen her back. She did so with weight training, which she has grown to love more and more over the years. Nowadays she is told she looks great for someone who carried triplets, and says that she never believed she wouldn't lose the baby weight after having them. As she approached her late 40s she realized that eating healthy and exercising wasn’t enough, and she was able to lose the last few kilos through nutritional cleansing! Excited to be a grandmother in just 11 weeks, Katherine is glad that her healthy lifestyle has rubbed off on all her children. She hopes she’ll still be pumping weights in her 80s! Check out Katherine’s website, and Instagram for more fitness inspiration!
Cynthia Kilmartin (@GoHiiT)
Cynthia Kilmartin, is a bit of a “mumpreneur”, and is a true fitness inspiration, having built a fitness app called GoHiiT. The app enables its users to build their own HIIT training intervals into their regular run. Cynthia found that it was really hard to fit fitness into her life as a mother. Also, as running on it’s own, while good for fitness, wasn’t helping her to shift that ‘baby weight’, she found GoHIIT helped her with fitness and weight loss simultaneously. It’s main benefits are that it creates a full body workout that you can choose yourself and run with your own playlist! It is currently on sale during the launch period for only $1.49 Aud, which has to be the cheapest customised workout you can buy! Check out GoHIIT on Facebook for more information!
Christine Young (@greaterhealthfitness)
Christine Young is a mum to twin toddlers as well as a personal trainer, who runs bootcamps in her local area to help other mums get fit! Check out her website, Greater Health & Fitness, and Facebook page, where she regularly posts information and videos to educate mums about fitness. Her passion is to help other mothers stay fit and healthy, creating balance in their hectic lives looking after their children. Christine has experienced falling out of shape, as she put on 20kg when pregnant with the twins. After about 6 months, she decided enough was enough and began to lose the weight. She found getting active with the twins around was the best way to get started, doing home workouts while they played in their play pen or taking them on walks. She also found it really helpful to stay prepared - workout clothes laid out and ready so she could have a quick 30-minute workout while they napped. She insists that even if you don’t work out everyday, it’s important as a mother to make time to look after yourself and stay fit! Follow her on Instagram as well!
So there you have it - it’s totally possible to stay fit as a mum, as these 8 strong women have proven! It takes careful planning and dedication, but with the right attitude you can find the time to workout and eat clean, no matter the situation.
