From feather eyebrows to microneedling a la Kim Kardashian, it’s been a weird year in beauty and skincare trends. Some things we’ve rejoiced in - like the return of luscious nude lips - and others we’d rather pretend didn’t happen, unicorn nails anyone?
It's time to treat yourself
Mums we’re looking at you here. Things like skincare and beauty feel time consuming and expensive when you’ve got so much else to do in the day. But treating yourself well is the first step to happiness this New Year. Take some time for yourself each morning and see if it doesn’t increase your happiness. It could be extra minutes to do your hair, fix your makeup or just a new 3-step skincare regime that leaves your face fresh and glowing.
A baby gym from MyDeal baby equipment will keep your bub safely entertained while you get to pampering. Looking good and feeling good often go hand in hand and we know you’re worth the extra time.
Get a nighttime routine
Our bodies do the best repair work overnight and you should be taking advantage of this with your skin. It’s not a sales pitch when the beauty experts tell you to get a nighttime routine. Most evening specific products are richer and more active than the daytime versions. It’s only one extra step in your evening before you get to crash into your warm sheets. If you keep your products close at hand, say on a neat bedside table, you'll be twice as likely to use them.
Be party ready
The end of the year and the arrival of Summer spell plenty of parties in your life. Consider this when choosing new skincare so you can get the most out of the products. Mituri Pradip Sharma from Nim-Véda Australia has more:
“The New Year often means excessive partying and enjoyment and while this is great for your soul, it can also be a workout for your skin! Make sure you keep your skin moisturised, protected and hydrated under all the glitz and glamour of NYE fashion by ensuring you have a natural, organic based moisturiser that keeps your skin healthy and protected throughout the day and night. Choose a cream that is lightweight and easily and rapidly penetrates your skin while keeping your pores moisturised - this way your makeup will remain flawless all through the day while being absorbed so your clothes remain fresh and beautiful while you enjoy the festivities!”

The smokey eye has been on our radar forever so it’s time to put it aside for a minute. Fresh and glowy party makeup can be achieved with a neutral eyeshadow base topped off with a bright or glittery eyeliner. Look for blues, purples and glitter silvers to make your peepers pop. Finish it off with a touch of blush and kissable nude lipstick.
Try a new active ingredient
Did you know your skin can become resistant to the products you are using? If you’ve been using the same products for your skin concerns - from sensitivity to redness and excess oil - you might find they’re becoming less effective. As Meagan Cohn from Lotus Healing explains you should change products regularly for the best results.
“Moving into a new year is a perfect opportunity to refresh your skincare routine.
When using the same active ingredients long-term, the results can “plateau”. New Year’s is the perfect time to start afresh, introduce some new active ingredients into your regime to enhance and regain a luminous skin for 2018!”

Fight off toxins
Chemicals and toxins are rife in the modern world - in everything from our food to our makeup. Your body does it’s best to detox but there’s no harm in giving it support. As Rachel Chan from Luxe Botanics explains natural skincare products are going to help refresh your skin.
“Start the new year with a skin detox— a clean, naturally oriented skincare routine.
Over time, toxins and unhealthy substances accumulate in your body. Although your body is naturally equipped to detox itself with various organs like the liver and, yes, the skin, modern lifestyle has increased the rate of toxin stockpiling through factors like pesticides in our food and unnecessary chemicals in skin care. This means the natural detox process occurs more slowly than the toxin buildup process. The good news is—just like your body can heal after you begin consuming organic greens on the regular, your skin can restore itself when you nourish it with clean, nature-derived ingredients.
The key is to swap out your beauty products one at a time, rather than switching everything all at once, to give your skin time to adjust. This transition period doesn’t always look pretty at first, but it’s worth the wait and effort.”

Try a new office makeup look
Been wearing the same foundation and mascara to work for years now? Then it might be time to refresh your office makeup look. Test out different focus points of your face; Monday can be defined brows, Tuesday a new lip shade, Wednesday bronzed cheeks, Thursday megawatts lashes and Friday dreamy date eyeshadow. Trying just one at a time is a good way to ease yourself into a new look and avoid people overreacting to your updated style.
Give these tips a go for some trends that will last you all the way through 2018.
