Life gets a little crazy sometimes… I’m sure we can all relate to that. However, there are definitely ways to keep things in check, so that you aren’t losing possessions, turning up late to meetings and forgetting that the kids had a playdate that afternoon! With a few organizational hacks, you can get your life in order and ace everything you put your mind to!
Make Use Of Technology
Technology may have many downsides, but since it’s here to stay, why not embrace it? Yes, you can use technology to help you be more organised, as opposed to only using it in the form of distracting devices. Rosie Lo Grasso shares her experience with this particular tool:
“I am the co-founder & marketing consultant of a marketing consultancy & graphic design studio, ideapro, based in Melbourne. I need to keep highly organised as I work part time, and am a mum to my beautiful little girl of 22 months, Juliet, managing the delicate balance between work and personal activities. One of the main tools I use is my digital calendar - it pretty much runs my life and nothing goes into my calendar without a reminder.”
Optimize Storage Spaces
Having a cluttered house is a sure way to feel disorganized. Getting all of your possessions in order, and it will save you so much time just knowing where to look when trying to find something. One great way to do this is to put great consideration into what furniture you select for your house. The best options are those pieces that not only look great aesthetically, but have room to store knick knacks in them as well. Kids furniture is especially good for storage, which works well as most children accumulate a large selection of clothes, books, toys etcetera over the years.
Whether it’s a bed, with storage space underneath it, or creative looking shelves, which add to the decor but are also great for holding a good number of items - find a way to make the interior design in your household as functional as it is aesthetic.
Maintenance Is As Important As Implementation
There is absolutely no point in implementing changes to your behaviour to improve your organisational skills, unless you are actually going to put work into maintaining them. Amanda Lecaude considers herself an expert organiser and has been helping clients for over 6 years, ranging from individuals, businesses, families, couples and students, to get organised, manage their time and enjoy life. She emphasises that maintenance is the key to being organised:
“So what does ‘maintenance is the key to being organised’ really mean? In my world it usually means that when one works hard to get themselves organised in any space at home or work then it is important not to undo all that hard work over time by not maintaining that space. It is taking the time on a regular basis to put things away. The last thing you want to do is for it to become overwhelming and out of order or control again.
Establishing a few daily and regular habits will help you maintain your space without it feeling like a chore. A little effort can go a long way as you make your home or work space the haven you love and enjoy having less clutter around you each and everyday.”
Have A Daily Plan
This may sound unnecessarily tedious to some, but there are so many benefits to having a daily plan. It doesn’t need to be detailed down to the minute, but tasks for morning afternoon and evening - whether you are at work, home or school, can go a long way. It helps to have different places, where you do different types of work. Have a particular part of the house where you know is the ‘homework zone’ for example.
Particularly for parents who work from home, this can prove to be a challenge as you are constantly balancing getting things done, with screams of “MUM! DAD!” in the next room over. The trick is to have clear blocks of time which are for work and only work, and find ways to occupy your children during those periods. Whether it’s outside play equipment, a doll set, or a fun game that siblings can play together - have a concrete plan. These don’t have to be hard to find either! Browse discount swings online, and you’ll find an awesome range that your kids will be happy to play on for hours. Don’t feel guilty, as if you focus on your work now, your children will be more than happy to have your undivided attention later on.
There are no excuses! It’s time to get organised, both in terms of your material possessions, and your daily life schedule. It may take a little effort at first, especially if you have numerous commitments to juggle. But never fear! In no time at all, it’ll be a cinch and you’ll feel as though you are winning in all areas of life. Above all, staying extremely organised will allow you to stay fit and healthy, as you can make sure you have enough time for sleep, proper eating and fitness!
