It seems like you blink and there’s another school holiday around the corner. Entertaining the little ones can be expensive, and you want to make sure the activities they do are safe, active and fun. Instead of spending an arm and a leg on out of home activities for the kids, here are a few ways to keep them amused over the holidays, without breaking the bank.
Make A Playground At Home
There’s nothing a kid loves more than a playground. The only problem is, there isn’t always one nearby. There are cheap and easy way to create a playground in your own backyard, without spending a fortune. Invest in some outdoor playground equipment; they’ll entertain your kids for hours, while looking cute in your backyard. Playgrounds in your backyard will last a long time, too, so you don’t have to worry about always finding a way to entertain your kids outside when the weather is nice and warm.
Spend A Day Dedicated To Playing With Them
This seems pretty obvious, but setting time aside in the day to spend some quality time with your kid is fundamental for their emotional growth. Whether your kid loves dolls, playing footie or reading, sit down (or get outside) and spend a few hours with them, dedicating all of your attention to their passion or activity. This is a great way to get your kids to teach you about something new, and for you to just spend some time one-on-one with your little bundle of joy. If they enjoy playing outside, spend the entire day with baby and kids toys and equipment, just enjoying the sunshine and letting them get plenty of fresh air.
Get Them In The Kitchen
There’s no better way to get your kids excited about food than by getting them in the kitchen and making their own food! It’s a great way to keep an eye on them, and teach them about cooking! Cooking is a great lesson to learn, and starting to teach your kids at a young age is a great boredom buster. Start with making small things that your kids enjoy eating, whether it’s cookies or cake, and watch their eyes light up after they see the magic behind baking. Soon they’ll want to spend every weekend whipping up tasty treats by your side!
Teach Them A New Skill
It’s always great to learn something new, and if you’re running out of ways to keep your kids occupied, you can always teach them something they don’t know. It could be teaching them how to ride a bike, how to draw an animal, or even just educating them on history. Get them to sit down with a book, or practice the new skill until they’ve mastered it, and before you know it, the whole day has gone, and they’ll have a new skills to show off to their friends!
Lights! Cameras! Action!
If your children are always dressing up as characters, put a day aside and film a small movie with them! Sit them down and write a movie, or re-enact their favourite film, with them as the main character. Spend the day making a movie with them, and then one you’re done, sit down and edit it with them. This is a great way to keep them amused for a while, get them moving around and teaching them about film making! It’s also a great way to make some funny memories for when they’re older!
Jump For Joy!
If it’s a nice day out, get your kids breathing fresh air and have some fun! Sand pits & trampolines are a great way to entertain your kids. They can even invite their friends around for a playdate. Outdoor play equipment comes in a huge variety of shapes and sizes to flatter your backyard, and your kids will continue to use it even when they’re older. You can even join in on the fun, too! A trampoline or sandpit is a great way to get your kids to spend some time outdoors, while you enjoy the freedom of keeping your backyard nice and tidy!
There are so many ways to entertain your kids over the holidays without having to spend a lot of money or go too far away from home. Spending time with your kids instead of taking them to the movies or to somewhere too expensive is a great bonding experience between you, plus it will create great memories!
