For some, exercise is a sanctuary where you go to better yourself, push yourself and test your limits. For others working out is a necessary evil, full of uncertainty and perceived scrutiny.
There are a million and one reasons to avoid getting out of bed in the morning to go and exercise. Things like work, the kids, household chores, grocery shopping, cooking, the list goes on.
However, studies have shown that slowly incorporating daily activity into your life is the most effective way to stick to an exercise routine. Expecting to wake up one morning and completely change your habits and become a fitness freak is unrealistic. By being all or nothing, you’re setting yourself up to fail long term. Follow these steps and you’ll be a fitness freak in no time!
It doesn’t matter where you are, you can exercise. You don’t have to pay for a fancy gym membership to workout. If you have access to the internet you can plan a workout routine and workout from home if you have to.
If it’s your first time at the gym, jump on a machine that you’re familiar with and observe others. Observe what people are doing and how they’re using equipment you’re unsure about, that way you’ll know what you’re doing when you use a new piece of equipment.
As they say by failing to prepare you’re preparing to fail. There’s nothing worse than wasting time thinking about your next exercise. All the while your heart rate is dropping and you’re body will start to leave its fat burning mode. Before you plan to exercise, watch some YouTube tutorials and jump online to get some inspiration.
The fastest way to attain fitness is by slowly building up to it. Forcing yourself into 2 hours of exercise every day is going to run you into the ground. Treating yourself and resting is just as important as exercise. We’re all human and treating yourself every now and then helps you avoid losing control. Track little accomplishments, treat yourself and then keep going! Use those achievements as motivation to keep pushing yourself a little more every day.
