Whether you’re going on your first date or your fiftieth, coming up with something fun and exciting to do can be a challenge. Here are nine dates that are far from cliched and can be done in any city.
Pub Trivia Night
Show off your general knowledge (or lack thereof) with a round of trivia at your local pub! This date idea is a great way to loosen up a bit, have a few drinks and have a laugh.
Date Crates
If you’re feeling a little adventurous, why not leave it to chance? Date Crate is the perfect way to leave it to chance on a date, and they’ll explain why. “Date Crate is a monthly subscription box service that provides a box full of supplies and instructions to couples throughout Australia so that they can have a fun, romantic and creative date night at home. No need for babysitters, no need to dress up (unless you want to) no hours of preparation needed at all. You just open the crate and enjoy!” Follow Date Crate on Facebook and Instagram to find out more.
Do Something Neither Of You Has Done Before
We’ve all seen Breakfast at Tiffany’s and we all have secretly wanted to share a moment like Holly and Fred “darling”, where they spend the day in New York experiencing things they haven’t done before. Now, you don’t have to steal a children’s mask from a store on this date, but you can definitely spend the day doing things neither of you has done before. Whether that be riding on a Ferris wheel, heading to the library or playing frisbee, experiencing something new is exciting, plus you get to do it with someone fun!
Arcade Night
Smash open your piggy bank and relive your childhood by heading to the arcade. Surround yourself with bright, neon lights and joysticks; this date is a lot of fun! You’ll feel like a teenager again as you shoot hoops, whack crocodiles and play Atari. Talk about a blast from the past.
Disposable Camera Day
Everyone is surrounded by smartphones and Instagram these days, and it can get a bit boring and repetitive. If you’re into photography, why not spend a bit of extra cash and get yourself and your date a disposable camera each? For the day, walk around the city, parks or wherever, and take photos of your day with the disposable cameras. Take photos of nature, sit in your backyard and take photos of the flames dancing in your fire pit, whatever you like. This way, when you get the pictures developed, you can sit down and go through all of your photos together. Since film often takes a day or two to get developed, it’s the perfect excuse for a second date.
Karaoke
For those who love to show off, why not take your date to a karaoke bar? Belt out your favourite tunes, embarrass yourself and have some fun. These dates are memorable, and you although it may start off a bit awkward, by the end of the night, you and your date may end up as the next Sonny and Cher; I got you, babe.
Head To An Amusement Park
So, this one is a little cliche, but it’s a fun date idea nevertheless. Spend the day or night (or both) riding the roller coasters, driving the dodgem cars and eating your weight in fairy floss. This date is a timeless one, because no matter how old you may be, amusement parks are made for every age, and they are so much fun. Bonus points if you win a big, plush toy… show off.
Play Truth or Dare
For those who are feeling a bit adventurous or need to add some spark to their date, why not play truth or dare? It’s a great icebreaker for the first few dates, as you can find out more about the company you’re spending time with, and you can have some fun when the dares come into play. C’mon, live a little! This is a great game to play at home, so get the wine out of the bar fridge, and get creative. If you'd rather just chat, why not get it started with the help of FuelBox?
