Planning the baby shower is the next most important job after you’ve played maid-of-honour. The soon to be mum in your life is busy preparing for her baby so her input in the shower planning could be minimal. From games to gifts and food or drinks there’s baby shower inspo for you here.
Start with the basics
Louise Lazendic from Illume Partyware has plenty of experience planning parties of all kinds, including baby showers. Here’s two of her tips for the best shower:
“It’s all about the mum-to-be
Before you invest hours in planning and details, start by having a cup of herbal tea with the mum-to-be! I love the fact you have this opportunity to bring her likes, joys and wishes to life. In addition, it will reduce your workload instantly and capture meaningful details (like comfort foods, treasured guests, ideas for inspiration). This small planning step will ensure you are creating her ultimate baby shower.
Keep things moving
I like to plan, just like a wedding if you follow a few baby shower guidelines you will find the day flows smoothly and mum-to-be will be relaxed too. First of all, make sure your baby shower is only 2 to 3 hours long. Setting a clear start and finish time will ensure mum-to- be doesn’t get exhausted and your guests won’t feel guilty for leaving. I greet all my guests with an arrival drink and direction to the gift table (if appropriate), or activity station which always gets people talking. Once all the guests have arrived you can move into an activity and food. Presents can be opened at the baby shower, but leave large piles till after as it can become tedious for guests. Draw the baby shower to an end with dessert, tea and coffee. I love giving out thank you gifts as guests depart and it’s fun to create a display near the door so I don’t forget!”

Have a gift registry
There’s so much fantastic baby equipment you’ll be needing but you definitely don’t require multiple of the same thing! Buying gifts can be stressful so at least this way your guests know they’ll be sharing with you something you want.
A party game for everyone to play
Mum and dad will want to practice using their MyDeal changing table and you can turn it into a fun party game by seeing who can change a diaper fastest on a baby doll. Get a scoreboard going and have the other couples you’ve invited along play a round as well. We bet grandma has a few diaper changing tips in her arsenal that she’s about to teach you.
Provide a guestbook
Baby showers are exciting events that you will want to remember, especially if it’s a first child. It’s always nice to look back on a guestbook and Rhicreative have the perfect baby shower edition. It includes sections for well-wishes, gender predictions and advice for the parents-to-be for up to 26 guests. More than a simple list of invitees this guestbook becomes a keepsake.

Decide whether you’ll be serving alcohol
Some mums won’t mind if their friends and family enjoy a drink but others would prefer not to have the temptation at all. Find out the mum-to-be’s stance on alcohol early on so you can prepare enough of whatever kind of drink is required.
For a soft drink with a difference take a look at MOJO sparkling drinks. They have a range of low sugar, probiotic beverages made from organic fruits and veg. Just as tasty but much lower in sugar than other juice and soft drinks.
Adelaide Davison from MOJO had these suggestions:
“Keep MOJO chilled and readily available for your guests by displaying them in an ice bucket. The natural vibrancy of our beverages in their glass bottles, with some flower filled ice, make for a beautiful presentation.
Celebrate your special occasion by mixing up some MOJO mocktails (or cocktails!) – try serving our MOJO Perfect Passionfruit Kombucha with lots of ice, some passionfruit pulp, mint leaves, and a splash of gin if desired. Or blend our MOJO Tonic Pineapple & Coconut with some pineapple and ice for a nourishing slushie.”
