We all tell ourselves that we need to give our mattresses a good clean, but how often do we really do it? Yeah, thought so. Whether you have a mattress from a couple of decades ago, or you have just bought yourself a brand new memory foam mattress from MyDeal, you’re going to have to clean it eventually. Here is how you can do that effortlessly, every time.
Clean Your Sheets
The first thing you should do is take the sheets off your bed. You should be cleaning your sheets every week, but we’re all a little guilty of not doing that, so this is the perfect opportunity to get your old sheets off your bed and give them a good scrubbing. If you’re feeling extra ambitious, you should also give your duvet covers a good wash too. This may be the perfect chance to get yourself some stylish new quilt covers, you know you’ve been meaning to for a while.
Vacuum
Once you have the sheets off your bed, it’s time to get out your vacuum cleaner and give your mattress the once over. Suck up all the dirt and grime that has built up on your mattress, and make sure you get every little spot, even the piping on the edges.
Spot Clean
Now you’ve done the once over on your mattress, you should find any problem areas on the mattress, such as stains or discolouration, and spot clean them.
Deodorise With Baking Soda
Baking soda is an important part to this process. Sprinkle baking soda over the mattress, spare no areas. Don’t be afraid to use the entire box of baking soda, too. For best results, leave the baking soda on there for 24 hours. However, since that time frame isn’t always suitable for everyone, you can leave it on during the day, letting it do its magic while you’re at work. The baking soda will help remove any odours from the mattress, as well as keep it fresher for longer.
Vacuum Again
Once you’ve sprinkled your baking soda over the mattress and you’ve let it sit for a while, you can vacuum it all up. Once again, make sure you focus on the entire mattress, once again, making sure you don’t miss any of the piping on the corners.
How To Keep It Fresh All Year Long
Summer Shadforth, a representative from Fantastic Cleaners, shares her advice. “1. Vacuum it regularly. Even if you use a mattress cover you still need to vacuum your mattress every now and then. The cover is not an armour and does not protect the mattress completely. Remove it and after that vacuum the mattress. Also, the cover should be thrown into the washing machine on a regular basis. Thus, you’ll get rid of any dirt, dust or pet hair.
2. Air it out. The best thing to do for your mattress is to give it some fresh air and sunlight. This of course, is not possible for everyone and is a little harder if you live in an apartment. However, if you can you should totally do that. It’s a great natural was to eliminate bacteria.
3. Professional cleaning. Book professional Upholstery cleaning at least twice a year. This is a good way to protect your mattress from being worn-out. Also, this will remove any stains that you cannot clean yourself. It is a great way to maintain your mattress and ensure a longer life for it.” Find out more about Fantastic Cleaners by following them on Facebook.
