What is your name?
Tell us a bit about yourself..
I am an event coordinator by day and pinterest obsessed, crafting, baking, photo taking enthusiast by night. Oh and a mum to two crazy little munchkins 24/7! I love being creative and will find whatever chance I can to incorporate a colour scheme. Those who know me know my number one excitement in life is organising anything with a good theme or that involves dress ups!
What is the name of your blog?
Lane & Co. www.katlaneandco.com
How did you get into blogging?
My 21st birthday was a Grease theme and I decided I wanted to make myself a 50s poodle skirt to wear. In all my researching on how to make a petticoat I came across the sewing blog world. This is where I first started blogging to track my progress on my costume.
Tell us a bit more about what your social media/ blogs include..
My blog has changed and evolved a lot since I started. I used to blog solely about sewing. Now I share a mix of sewing, crafting, baking and general life musings. My Instagram is my favourite creative outlet at the moment. I have always loved taking photos and playing with editing so this gives me a chance to play around without too much pressure. My Instagram is all about light, bright and full of colour life photos.
What was the inspiration behind Lane and Co?
I moved over to Lane & Co recently as I wanted to make myself a new blog where I felt I could share more on my general life with my family as well as my creative outlets. So the “Lane” represents me and my creative pursuits and the “Co” is my darling family and all that we get up to in our spare time.
What is your top tip for organising kids’ rooms and preventing them from getting messy?
Oh that is the million dollar question that all mums seek the answer too! I have always had Monday as my major tidy day where I completely fix up the kids rooms. Then each night I do a tidy before they go to bed so things don’t get too out of hand. I find if everything has a spot then it is easier to tidy and to get the kids to help you as they know where things belong. In saying that we just moved house so my kids rooms are a stack of boxes at the moment.
What is a fast and healthy lunchbox meal for kids for all our busy mums out there?
I find anything ordinary that you give a twist will always satisfy my kids. Use wraps to make “sandwich sushi” for a twist on a normal sandwich. Just take a wrap pop on your fillings and roll up like a sushi roll. Cut into slices and use toothpicks to hold them together. Or make mini fruit kebabs instead of just giving whole fruit. I find the novelty helps my kids to eat their lunch!
What colours/styles/patterns should we look out for across fashion and design this summer?
While I love the monochrome look that has been happening lately I am looking forward to a resurgence of colour. I think this summer we will see more boho styles with natural timbers, bright colourful accessories and bringing the outdoors in with lots of indoor plants and greenery. Fresh, fun and vibrant!
For our readers, what is a colour scheme or style that can never go wrong in your home?
I love colour! A neutral clean crisp base with lots of colour pops is my go to. Neutral furniture and fixings allow you to change up your look easily by swapping out the accessories around the home. We have a neutral lounge that I can swap the cushions out on each season to change up the look. Or a white bedspread that allows new cushions and throws to quickly change it up.
Editors Note **
Apply Kat's tip and bring nature into your home with low maintenance artificial grass that you can use as any surface!
