November is just around the corner so now would be the perfect time for you to decide how to celebrate the Spring Racing Carnival. Whether you’ll be attending this year or looking for ways to enjoy from home we’ve got an idea.
If You’re Attending Stakes Day
Rule the style stakes
Olivia Vlachou is the founder of All The Dresses, a clever site that collates the most popular dress and accessory rental sites so you can browse everything at once. They have a perfect selection for this year's racing carnival and Olivia shared with us her advice for what’s on trend in 2017.
“This year, don't be afraid to go all out and have fun with your look.
Bright block colours, think 80's tones, are really popular, as are flirty florals. For a more classic look go for laser-cut lace with extended hems or see-through sleeves in a navy, black or maroon tone.
Opt for an outfit that is tailored or a-line that compliments your womanly silhouette, without showing too much skin.
Millinery is a must. Metallics and bold shapes are in. Try to coordinate your headwear with the colour of your dress.
Plan ahead for maximum fun
Taking kids for a day out has the potential to end in disaster if you aren’t properly prepared. Make sure you’re bringing the best stroller for a day in big crowds. Something compact or foldable will be an advantage to stow away when it’s not being used. There’s hidden benefits to a pram with extra storage baskets from bringing along favoured kids toys to disarm a tantrum to hiding a pair of flat shoes for yourself when the heels take their toll.
There’s plenty happening on Stakes Day to entertain families from the Emirates Fashions On The Field - showcasing the best in boys, girls and family fashions - to The Arcade, where you’ll find a silent disco, arcade games and face painting. Have a look on the VRC website before you leave to make sure you don’t miss any of the fun events they’ll be hosting.
If You’re Celebrating From Home
Host a carnival of your own
We can’t all be lucky enough to attend the Spring Racing Carnival but we can all enjoy the celebrations by hosting your own Spring party. If you’re planning a big bash we recommend creating an at-home carnival atmosphere for the kids with MyDeal outdoor play equipment. You could set up anything from jumping castles to picnic tables and trampolines to give them a day to remember.
Create kid-friendly canapes
One of the struggles of hosting a party for both adults and kids is finding food that suits every palate. Thankfully, Becky Gilhespie from Eat What We Eat has a few ideas for kid-friendly canapes that will go down well with the adults too. Everybody loves a toastie so why not take yours to the party level by making mini croque monsieur sandwiches. Or test out some savoury muffins with a sausage and cheese filling, perfect for little hands to grab on the run.

Adding flavoured cordials to any drink can give it more of a party vibe without going crazy on the ingredients. Raspberry cordial and lemonade has all the elements children love and can be turned into an adult tipple with the simple addition of spirits or champagne. Just be sure to keep the alcohol table far away from the kids.
Spring is a wonderful time of year so take the opportunity to celebrate everything the season has to offer.
