There’s only three essentials to throwing a good old Aussie BBQ; quality meat, a nice grill and sunshine. But if you feel like upping the stakes on your basic backyard grill party here’s a few things you could try.
1) Treat your backyard like any other room
It takes more than a beautiful grassy yard to qualify as the prime BBQ environment. Kit your yard out with a range of outdoor furnishings - we’re talking talking tables, chairs, storage solutions and sun lounges for the afternoon tanning sesh. You wouldn’t force everyone to eat while standing inside the house so apply the same rules outside. Treat your guests to the best with a wicker or bamboo lounge set and create a casual feasting vibe. With all this comfort in your yard it’s hard to believe you’re even outside at all.
2) Make it multicultural
Anthony Bianco has tasted BBQ’s across the globe from South African braai to Argentinian parilla while running The Travel Tart. His top tip? Cooking your meats over charcoal with the direct grilling method gives an unbeatable flavour. Taking heed of his Italian background, Anthony says there is only one “cardinal sin” - running out of food. So make sure to prep a variety of different meats and marinade flavours. Follow his adventures on Facebook and Youtube.
3) Always have a backup plan
A great atmosphere? Check. Heaps of yummy food? Check. Something to toast to your successes? Uh-oh, somebody forgot to stock up on drinks. Before you go scrambling for that uninviting heatbox formerly known as your car, there is a better way. Leave the drink deliveries with someone else and make the most of the spectacular sunshine. Better yet, place a pre-order and stress less about providing the good stuff. Find out more about Tipple through Twitter and Instagram.
With Spring just around the corner there’s plenty of sun to look forward too. No doubt a backyard BBQ is in your future so get prepping.
