Dropping dress sizes is a serious achievement and you should be proud. Losing weight is only the first step however, as you now have to learn how to style your new beautiful body. It’s common to feel awkward and lack confidence even when you’ve made a major lifestyle change. We asked the experts how to style the new you so you can head straight for the fashion aisles.
Joanna Willmott | There Will Be Style
Joanna is a Sydney-based personal shopper and stylist. She’s experienced first-hand the many lifestyle changes that affect women’s style from pregnancy weight gain (and loss) to reentering the workforce and wondering what’s now in style. Here’s her advice for weight loss style:
“Clothing made of fabrics such as jersey, modal, or even bamboo will be the most versatile during your weight loss journey. Wrap dresses, pencil skirts with an elastic waistband, simple tops, and layered outerwear in draping styles.
Make sure to part with clothing in your wardrobe that is now too big for you.
Try not to do a full-on clothes shop until you have reached your goal weight.
If you have reached your goal weight, then purchase the basics; t-shirts, shirts, denim, a couple of dresses. Enough to create a basic wardrobe until you develop your new sense of style.
Play with accessories. If you’ve started to lose weight around your waist, then start belting your dresses. Show off your wonderful achievements by highlighting your best physical feature.
Celebrate your weight loss milestones with a new lipstick or shoes, a smaller fashion purchase will ease you into your new look and keep you inspired!”

MyDeal Pro Tip:
Reward your hard work
As you edge closer to those health and fitness goals it’s time to celebrate your milestones. When you’ve hit halfway give yourself a confidence boost with a new full-length mirror. Checking yourself out every morning before leaving the house is the perfect way to remind yourself how far you’ve come. Pick one up in MyDeal home and garden.
Once your goal weight is in your sights a shopping spree is in the near future. New clothes deserve a new home to hang around in. Update your bedroom storage with a functional wardrobe. A new wardrobe is only a small symbol but it’s a way to embrace the fresh start you’ve worked so hard to enjoy.
Megan Love | Style On Cue
Megan is a qualified personal stylist who believes in allowing every client to ‘Create Their Personal Style’ and to have them feel confident in who they are and how they look. She shared her top tips for style along your weight loss journey:
“Be willing to purchase a few key pieces through your weight loss journey that make you feel stylish and confident. One example is a wrap dress. With a tie waist it cinches on the slimmest part of the torso, creating a waistline. It is timeless on all ages.
Selecting a jersey or knit fabric will skim across the body creating a stylish silhouette. Find items that can work with your shape; tops and dresses in a jersey or stretch material work best.
Do not hide under excess material, play with colour and print as they can create illusion dressing. Use accessories to your advantage; a belt, to create a waist, a scarf or necklace to elongate the body and draw the attention upwards.
Be confident in your choices and proud of your changing body on your weight loss journey.”
