The KMC / Shimano HG40 chain will suit most bikes with 7 or 8 speeds on the rear wheel. These chains are made to a very high standard while being great value for money. This chain is designed to match Shimano HyperGlide freewheels and cassettes, but it will suit similar freewheels and cassettes from some other brands. If you are replacing a freewheel or cassette you almost always need to replace your chain as well. This one is a great choice that will give you thousands of kilometres of service and won't break the bank. It is a narrow, multi-speed chain (3/32" nominal width) and so will not suit most singlespeed or fixed gear bikes, which have a 1/8"nominal width.
