Back when the United States was a land full of towering redwood forests, American Indians and vast herds of bison, a group of plucky surveyors were asked to do a spot of exploring by Thomas Jefferson. Lead by Captain Lewis and his bestie, Second Lieutenant Clark, they spent the next two years of their lives bush whacking, mountain climbing, river rafting, flower picking, treaty signing, bear wrestling and no doubt skinny dipping their away across the previously un-charted western United States. While they were lucky enough to have a Shoshone woman, Sacagawea, offer them advice along the way, they would’ve been well and truly lost if it wasn’t for their trusted compass, because as we know the compass never lies, but a grumpy and eight month pregnant Sacagawea just might if you start to annoy her.

This stunning wooden compass is a replica of the very one used by Lewis and Clark in their journey across the uncharted territories. It’s housed in a lightly distressed rosewood box (you’d also feel a tad distressed after travelling nearly 13 000km) and will sit beautifully on your desk, side table or shelf, adding a touch of vintage adventure to any room.
