The lacquered finish is without solvent, preserving the quality of the air in your child's bedroom (no VOCs emissions) and gives this product a beautiful satin finish.
This item meets the requirements of the European standard "toys" 71/3 EN (food grade lacquers and varnishes) which is equivalent to our Australian Standard AS/NZS 8124.3:2003. 
All panels used are E0.5 or E0 panels: they have a formaldehyde content less than or equal to 4 mg/100 g, which is 2 times lower than the requirements of European Standard EN 120 (less than 8 mg/100 g).
