    About Wusthof

    Passion - Diligence - Perfection

We would like to pass on the passion that goes in to making our knives to you, firing you with enthusiasm for the result - the perfect, high-quality product.
Thus ensuring that you take pleasure in using it every day.

There are knives and then there are WÜSTHOF knives.

WÜSTHOF knives are particularly sharp from the start and retain their sharpness for a long time. However, if you use your knives frequently, you will need to sharpen them now and again.

It takes over 40 steps to make a perfectly forged WÜSTHOF knife out of a high-quality but plain piece of steel. These tasks are performed by 300 or so employees, who have high levels of experience and commitment, guaranteeing a consistently high level of quality for your products.

    The Steel

When you choose a WÜSTHOF knife, you can expect something really special.
It all begins with the material we carefully select for making our knives.

We use a special type of steel for making knives - chromium-molybdenum-vanadium steel.
This provides the basis for the most important feature of a knife - its sharpness!

    • Have an extremely high initial cutting performance thanks to PEtec.
    • Maintain their sharpness for a long time.
    • Are particularly resistant to corrosion.
    • Are easy to sharpen.
    The Wusthof Knife in Detail

When you look at WÜSTHOF knives in detail, you can easily see what makes them so popular with home cooks and professional chefs and why they prefer not to let them out of their hands.
The following key quality features are what make all the difference:

    1. The blade surface

The forged blade is made from a single piece of chromium-molybdenum-vanadium steel and is hardened to 58° Rockwell during the production process.
The knives are sharp, long-lasting and easy to sharpen.

    2. The blade spine

At WÜSTHOF, the spine of the blade is carefully ground and beautifully smooth (this is known by the technical term “deburring”).
No sharp edges are left behind to press uncomfortably into the ball of the thumb.

    3. The Bolster

The thicker integral section between the blade and the handle is a typical feature of the forged knife.
Thanks to its weight, the knife is perfectly balanced in the hand.

    4. The rivets

Stainless steel rivets permanently secure the handles to the tang.

    5. The cutting edge

The cutting edge enables clean and precise cuts. The outstanding sharpness and edge retention of WÜSTHOF knives is thanks to the special laser-controlled PEtec sharpening process.

Before sharpening, the blades are measured using lasers. Computer programs calculate the precise sharpening angle for each blade.

Using robot-assisted techniques, the blade is sharpened on a whetstone and a polishing disc then gives the blade its ultimate sharpness.

    6. The etching

This marking on the blade surface provides proof of the knife’s origin and includes the product number and name of the range, as well as the WÜSTHOF logo and place of origin (Made in Germany/Solingen).

    7. The finger guard

Protects the fingers from sliding down the blade.

    8. The tang

The handles are attached to this extension of the blade known as the tang.
The handles can be made from various different materials.

    9. The heel of the handle

This is shaped so that the knife can always be handled safely.

Thanks to its weight, the knife is perfectly balanced in the hand.
