This Japanese variety bitter gourd long variety has green heavily warted skin and best flavour when harvested young at 28-30cm.
The fruits are crisp and tender. The climbing vine can reach 4meter and bears yellow flowers. Being a tropical vegetable, Bitter gourd prefers a warm climate and humidity to thrive. Bitter gourd is also known as bitter melon, karela, karalla and balsam pear in various other Asian cultures.
They are very easy to grow & easy to maintain. The plant can produce an abundance of small-sized bitter melons for a few months as long as you give the plant sufficient fertiliser and water well.
Best time to sow seeds after frost. Seeds need min 20oC to germinate. For a better germination rate, soak the seeds in water for a few hours before planting and sow them 20mm deep in a sunny, well-drained position. They germinate between 10-14 days. Sow them 90 apart. Enjoy your harvest approx. 65-70 days from transplanting.
