Organically grown
Plant is commonly grown for its bulbs, used like a small richly flavoured onion. Raw Shallots are spicy, crisp and sweet and when cooked they're sweet but slightly savoury with a hint of garlic. Leaves can also be used in a similar way to spring onions / shallots. This variety has reddish brown skin and sweet flavour.
Sowing time –
Cold climates - After last frost in Spring or can be planted now and left to sprout once the weather warms up
Temperate Climates - June - October
Warm / Tropical climates - does best in cooler zones, plant in the coolest time of the year.
Prefer sunny position, 12-15cm apart, rows 30cm apart. Bulb production depends on climate conditions, full size bulbs may take 5 months to grow. Harvest when the plant begins to die back at the end of the season, lift and allow to dry somewhere cool for several weeks,
