‘Heart’ in Maori, Manawa expresses the spirit in which this wine was made. A reflection of the season and land from which it comes, Marlborough’s cool and low yielding growing season gave this wine concentrated tropical fruit and citrus flavours. These qualities were retained through cool fermentation and gentle handling, resulting in a classic, aromatic Sauvignon Blanc.
Vintage
Blessed with a glorious, dry summer, 2019 harvest commenced remarkably early on March 1st. Vintage 2019 will be remembered as relatively trouble free, and a long harvest period - after the last few years when all varieties ripened at once, the slow, steady and spread out nature of 2019 was welcomed.
Fruit was harvested at optimum maturity with the intention to maintain fresh and vibrant acidity to balance concentration of the fruit. All in all, we feel very grateful for all that vintage 2019 delivered - exceptional conditions and resulting fruit quality and health.
Winemaking
The fruit was harvested in the early morning and late evening, when the temperature of the grapes were still cool. After this the juice was gently pressed, then allowed to ferment in stainless steel tank at a low temperature, to retain fruit characters. The resulting wine shows depth, complexity and balance.
