A tea to "make the heart merry and joyful". The hot infusion of Meadowsweet plant (Filipendula ulmaria) leaf and flowers is anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving. Drunk several times a day is a treatment for influenza and rheumatism. The leaves were also a strewing herb. Golden, almond-scented flowers are utilised in potpourri. This herb was sacred to the ancient Druids. The namesake of Aspirin. Meadowsweet is a native of Europe and is adaptable to most well-drained soils in an open, sunny position. Flower heads occur in late summer and autumn. A perennial plant, growing to 1m x 0.75m.

These are water-loving plants that resent periods of drought and dry soils, but grouped or massed in the moist perennial border will result in a most impressive display. Plants are clump-forming with tall upright stems topped by branched terminal clusters of fragrant, creamy-white flowers. Compound, pinnate leaves are deep green and whitish beneath. Leaves are used as anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving.

The leaf should be harvested when the plant comes into flower.

Meadowsweet has traditionally been used to treat excess gastric acids such as in reflux oesophagitis, gastritis and peptic ulceration. It is thought to reduce inflammation of the bowel, joints and bladder so thought to be useful in colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, diarrhoea, rheumatic conditions, cystitis and urethritis. It also can help in the treatment of fever and the common cold.

WA order dispatch: Once a week. WA-based customers' orders will go through the Quarantine WA inspection at the WA border.

Return & Refund Policy

To be eligible for a return, your item must remain unused and in the same condition at which you received it. Additionally, it should retain its original packaging.

Unfortunately, we cannot accept exchanges or refunds on perishable items unless they are damaged.

For optimal satisfaction, you can return or exchange your purchase within 30 days of receiving it.

If you need to cancel an order you haven't picked up within 2 weeks after first delivery attempt, we'll need to charge a 20% restocking fee based on the seed value. Once we receive your mail order back, we will process the refund, minus the 20% restocking fees. Unfortunately, we won't be able to refund the postage, though.

If the buyer wants to change his/her mind, then the cost of returning the order will be covered by the buyer.

At Happy Valley Seeds, we are more than happy to cover the cost of return shipping for any damaged goods.
