Mustard - Yanagawa Takana seeds
Brassica juncea
Pack: 150 seeds, 5g
Enjoy the delights of this semi-heading cool season annual mustard! Noted for its large green leaves, medium-ribbed stems, and mildly pungent flavour, it is best to plant in rich soil and keep watered for optimal results. You may begin harvesting the 30-35cm tall leaves when ready; they make an excellent addition to pickle or in soups/stir-fries. Alternatively, use them fresh in salads - all parts of the plant are edible, from roots & shoots to stems & leaves! Moreover, do not forget those tender florets, too - delicious when harvested at their peak maturity.
AKA aba kola, aka takana, broad leaf mustard, cai xanh, chuk gai choi or dai gai choy; da jie cai and gat; Indian mustard and kaai tsai; karashina is the same as mustasa or rai - all these names refer to one incredible green vegetable: Mustard Greens! Also known as sawi hijau (in Indonesian), phakkaat khieo in Thai cuisine , taniku takana in Japanese dishes. Whether you call it moster greens or simply leafy greens with a pungent flavor- don't let its name limit your culinary creativity!
Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. Sow in spring & autumn at 3mm deep in a sunny position, 30cm apart. Germination in 7-14 days at 10-21oC. Fertilise as needed. Plant every two weeks for continuous harvest. Maturity in 40-50 days.
