Yacon Syrup contains FOS (fructooligosaccharides) and inulin which act as prebiotics to support healthier digestion and better gut health. Yacon Syrup has a low GI rating of 42 and may be recommended for diabetic and low calorie diets. Yacon has also been known to support regularity, satiety and weight control. Yacon Syrup contains antioxidants, amino acids (including tryptophan), phosphorus, calcium, iron, potassium, vitamins B and C in addition to soluble and insoluble fibre. Yacon is actually a species of the sunflower family, native to the Andean mountains in South America. Also known as Peruvian Ground Apple, due to it's sweet taste and crunchy texture, yacon roots are believed to be first harvested by the Incas and have been used as food and medicine for centuries by the Peruvians.
