Varietal | Pinot Gris |
Style | Juicier than juicy |
Our Notes
A savoury take on the style, with fresh-baked bread and quince jam showing on the palate. Lean and bright, quaffable, lightly honeyed, an approachable spring or summer wine from the pioneers of Mornington - and Australian! - pinot gris.
Single vineyard, the red-clay former flower farm "Tussie Mussie", with all the character that entails.
From The Winemaker
Pinot Gris like Pinot Noir are so distinguished by their site. Tussie Mussie Vineyard, formerly a flower farm, grows in the choccy red, iron rich soil of Merricks North. It's a generous wine with a luscious stone fruit palate; honey, heavy bottomed pears, creamy classic Pinot Gris. The mud brick homestead and original rambling house gardens are sensitively maintained as a boutique retreat.
About the Winery
As winemakers for T'Gallant, husband-and-wife duo Kathleen Quealy and Kevin McCarthy carved out a real niche both for the Mornington Peninsula and for the Pinot Gris grape, previously rarely planted in Australia but now a best-seller.MPN: QUE-PIN-0312
