SASHIKO TEMPLATE WAVES 4 Inch

The Japanese word sashiko means little stabs or running stitch. Humble beginnings led to creating home necessities by devising a simple stitch to quilt several layers of loosely woven fabric for strength and warmth. Modern Sashiko designs have now rejuvenated interest by using traditional Japanese designs worked onto indigo dyed fabric with white contrast running stitch. Adding a luxury finish to quilting, home furnishing and craft projects.

Place the template on right side of the fabric. Trace with a washable marking pencil. Prepare a length of thread and top stitch in the direction of the number sequence.

Sashiko, a Japanese style of stitching. Traditionally, this style of stitching uses repetitive patterns and is usually stitched on a navy fabric in white thread. This however, can be done in whatever colour you prefer.

This template is 4 inches and by using the registration marks (the circles) and a chalk or erasable pen, mark the cloth the dashes which will show you where to stitch.
