BUTTON Shellac has toughness and scratch resistance that makes it the preferred shellac for finishing floors, interior woodwork, and for French polishing musical instruments.

Button shellac (button-lac) is the least refined shellac and comes in the form of dark brown buttons.

It's only suitable for use when a very dark finish is desired.

Button Shellac can be applied with a brush, pad, sprayer, or wiping cloth. It has a super fast dry time and will strongly adhere to virtually any surface.

A resinous substance made from the secretions of the "lac beetle" found mainly in India and Thailand where it is gathered, processed and refined into different grades including buttons and flake which produce liquid shellac when dissolved in methylated spirits.

To speed up the process crush the buttons into flakes. Fast drying and easy to apply, it provides a flexible and elastic top coat that is durable and long lasting.

Shellac is one of the oldest finishes available and is still used to produce the classic finishes on antique furniture.

As far as appearance is concerned, shellac is suitable for virtually all wood types, from pine and cherry, all the way to imported exotics and tropical woods.

It's only disadvantages are poor water resistance and limited shelf life once it has been dissolved.

Properly stored in a dry area and container the shellac buttons will last for years.
