Socialism and the American Negro - W.E.B. Dubois CD
Product Description But especially American Negroes must know what is going on in the world today and learn for themselves what [Socialism] has to teach them in order that they may preserve their culture, get rid of their poverty, ignorance and disease and help America live up at least to a shadow of its vain boast as the land of the free and the home of the brave (W. E. B. DuBois, 1960). An unapologetic advocate for socialism, DuBois criticizes capitalism with biting words as he delivers a speech to the Wisconsin Socialist Club at age ninety-two. About the Author W. E. B. Du Bois (1868-1963) was the cofounder of the NAACP. He was educated at the University of Berlin and Harvard University, and he was the first African American to receive a PhD from Harvard. He taught at Wilberforce University in Ohio, the University of Pennsylvania, and Clark Atlanta University (where he established the department of social work). He is the author of numerous writings, including Worlds of Color; Africa in Battle against Colonialism, Racialism, Imperialism; and In Battle for Peace.Additional Info: Personnel: Tony DeSare (vocals, piano, Fender Rhodes piano, synthesizer); Jane Monheit (vocals); Richard Padron, Bucky Pizzarelli (guitar); Andy Farber (alto saxophone); Nathan Childers (tenor saxophone); Jay Brandford (baritone saxophone); Dominick Farinacci, Glenn Drewes (trumpet); Wayne Goodman (trombone); Tedd Firth (piano); Mike Lee (bass guitar); Brian Czach (drums).
