Rubber is produced naturally from the sap of the rubber tree.  Silicone, on the other hand, is a synthetic material.  Silicone exhibits a wider chemical resistance than rubber does but rubber exhibits much higher tensile strength, tear strength and abrasion resistance compared to silicone. Silicone has excellent resistance to weathering and UV.
