The 18-135mm is available in 2 versions USM and STM. The USM stands for Ultrasonic Motor and STM Stepper Motor. The USM auto-focus motor is quicker to focus and therefore better for moving subjects in photographs however if you are going to be doing video using autofocus then the STM version will be better for silent smooth video and less jarring in autofocus mode.
