The Fallkniven Gentleman’s Pocket Knife appears to be a traditional, slightly old-fashioned pocket knife but if you look at it closely you will find nothing but modern materials and hi-tech solutions.

We had some professional hunters to look at a handmade sample of the GP, and their spontaneous review was: This is how a folding knife for hunting purposes should look like! Aside from personal preferences, we guess that many will like the steel of this knife, our newly developed laminated cobalt steel is unlikely sharp. Other benefits include the reliable blade lock. A properly built liner-lock system is, in our opinion, the world’s strongest blade lock while still being easy to deal with. This technical solution also means that the knife is easy to clean. Rinse it under running warm water and let it dry for achieving best hygiene and function.

As the strong blade bolt is threaded, you can adjust the blade inertia to suit your personal taste. The blade joint does not require lubrication. Oil and grease rather attract dust and dirt and this will increase rather than reduce wear. The shackle at the end of the handle allows you tie the knife – you wouldn’t like to lose this beauty!

The first version of the GP is made in stainless steel and dark cocobolo, but other versions may also emerge in the future.

There is something really beautiful about having real stag for handle material. These days it is very hard to obtain a good supply of very attractive looking quality pieces, which can be legitimately purchased for manufacturing. The staghorn used on our knives is sourced legally. Staghorn is a natural material that is constantly moving, it shrinks or swells depending upon the humidity. After a period of time when horn ages it will shrink slightly, which is normal and cannot be controlled. This means that small stress cracks will appear around bolts and rivets. Please accept that is not covered by any warranty. If you are aware of the characteristics of horn you can look forward to a really nice example on these knives. These are AAA quality in terms of patterns and are matched for visual appeal. Because of the nature of the handle material no bale has been fitted to this model.

How to Use Fallkniven GPs Gentleman's Pocket Knife Stag Handle

This knife from Fallkniven has a classic design with a little bit of a retro vibe. However, it is made from modern materials, including laminated cobalt steel. This type of steel is at least 20% harder and more resilient than the often used stainless steel. Therefore, caring for this tool is not so difficult.

Here are some tips to ensure that your Fallkniven Gentleman’s Pocket Knife will last for the years to come:

• Clean the knife after each use. Even though laminated cobalt steel is a sturdy material, it can oxidise when left with soiled. It is why it is of great importance to keep the knife clean and oiled properly.
• Since this tool is a type known as a pocket knife, it does not have a fixed blade. Instead, it folds to tuck away the blade. Folding knives have always been susceptible to debris getting stuck in the locking and folding mechanisms. Therefore, you need to make cleaning the knife a habit, paying attention to the spots where it folds.
• Use solvents, including a paint thinner or acetone on the blade but never on the handle. Also, you should never use chlorine for cleaning, which will only accelerate the corrosion process.
• After cleaning, make sure it is dry. Although laminated cobalt steel can resist rust, it will show signs of age if it is always wet. Wipe it with a clean, dry cloth, especially if you plan to store it for some time.
• You should also lubricate the knife. Many knife owners forget (or skip) this step, unfortunately. They may not know how crucial it is to keep the tool oiled. Put some oil onto the moving parts of the knife. You may want to give special attention to the pivot area of the knife. Lubricating the blade will help ward off oxidation, too.

There are two stages when it comes to sharpening the Fallkniven GP knife. In the first stage, you remove metal by grinding the blade carefully. This step also helps establish a new edge. The second stage is where you “hone” the knife, which means you remove the metal in much smaller quantities. This process helps remove any imperfections, which may have been left after grinding.

You can use a DC4 whetstone from Fallkniven, which has two sides. The first is for honing, and the other is for sharpening.

Using the Knife

One important thing to do is to have a safety circle if you will use the pocket knife to protect yourself against any danger. Make it clear that by coming closer will end up with the other party getting hurt. Meanwhile, if you wish to use the knife to carve something, the safest method is to cut with the knife away from you. You must tighten your grip so that the tool will not slip.

When opening and closing, grip the knife using your non-dominant hand. Then, use your other hand’s thumb to pull the blade out as slowly as you can. Before you use the knife, ensure that the blade is locked in place and will not snap back into place.
