Girls is a contemporary coming-of-age comedy focusing on a group of 20-something women in New York and their adventures in post-collegiate floundering.

SEASON 1: Two years out of liberal arts school, Hannah (Lena Dunham) believes she has the talent to be a successful writer and though she has yet to complete her memoir (she has to live it first), her parents cut her off financially without warning. Further complicating things for Hannah is her unrequited passion for eccentric actor Adam (Adam Driver), with whom she occasionally has sex (when he can be bothered to respond to her text messages). As the harsh reality of rent and bills looms, Hannah leans on her very-put-together best friend and roommate Marnie (Allison Williams), who has a real job at an art gallery and an even realer boyfriend (Chris Abbott) (neither of which she can admit she might not love.) Meanwhile, their gorgeous British friend Jessa (Jemima Kirke), who has travelled to as many different countries as she's had boyfriends, appears in the city and moves in with Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet), her naive younger cousin with Sex and the City lifestyle aspirations.

SEASON 2: This season, Hannah forges ahead in her writing pursuits and begins seeing someone new, but her enthusiasm is tempered by the responsibility she feels her now-ex Adam, convalescing after his Season 1 finale accident. Let down by works and still lonely after calling things off with Charlie, Marnie needs her best friend and former roommate more than ever, but lingering awkwardness--and some surprising turns--only drive a wedge further between the pair. Meanwhile, still-married Jessa returns from her honeymoon in Mexico, supplying Hannah with new, wild ideas. Shoshanna takes charge of her new identity as a sexually active woman--and copes with the emotions that come along with it--as Ray (Alex Karpovsky) has an out-of-sight, out-of-mind attitude towards their relationship. The girls have their ups and downs, but the show's raw poignancy and fresh humour remain consistent.

SEASON 3: Hannah is now in a committed relationship with Adam and the two are settling into a newfound domesticity in Hannah's apartment. Hannah is also working on rehabilitating her writing career and concentrating on delivering her eBook to her eccentric publisher. Meanwhile, Marnie is adjusting to life after a sudden and traumatic breakup with Charlie and meticulously working to achieve the life she feels she deserves. Nearing graduation, newly single Shoshanna masterminds a plan to create a healthy (at least on paper) balance between partying and her studies. And, continuing her streak of disrupting the lives of those around her, Jessa resurfaces and strikes up an ambiguous friendship with a flamboyant father figure. Over this season's 12 episodes, the friendships between the girls are more volatile than ever, proving that female friendship is its own kind of romance. As always, love, life, sex and death can all interrupt the circuitous path to adulthood--and will arrive when you're least prepared.

SEASON 4: This season finds the girls tentatively edging towards maturity as they take on new personas in new worlds. As the season begins, Hannah leaves New York to attend the prestigious Iowa Writers' Workshop in the hopes of becoming a more serious writer, while confronting uncertainty in her relationship with Adam. Meanwhile, back in New York, Marnie pursues a music career while balancing her professional and romantic relationship with Desi (Ebon Moss-Bachrach); Shoshanna graduates and begins interviewing for jobs, while sorting out her relationship with Ray; and Jessa is trying out sobriety through AA, though her ability to stir up drama remains undiminished. By turns hilarious and heartbreaking, this season's 10 episodes offer up some unexpected twists, as the girls of Girls continue to hunt for success--creatively, professionally and romantically--in New York City and beyond.
