While most sewing machines can produce an overclocking stitch, it is up to the sewist to trim hems and preform an additional edging stitch to lock everything in place; which for a standard maxi skirt can have 30 minutes. However, as an overlocker cuts, hems, and finishes the edge in one motion, this is significantly reduced!
