The Holy Bible : King James Version, Quatercentenary Edition

The Holy Bible : King James Version, Quatercentenary Edition

Oxford is proud to announce a limited edition of the 1611 text of the King James Bible, with real leather binding, gilt edging, ribbon marker, gift presentation plate, and protective cloth slipcase.

This is the most authoritative edition of the King James Bible available.

The text of the 1611 edition differs from modern editions of the King James Version in thousands of details, and this edition is the most authentic version of the original text that has ever been published.

It follows the 1611 text page-for-page and line-for-line, reproducing all misprints rather than correcting them. The volume also reprints the large body of preliminary matter, which includes genealogies, maps, and lists of readings, as well as the translator's preface to the reader.

The text features an easy-to-read modern font instead of the black-letter type of the original, with the exception of the original decorative letters and early page ornaments, which have been reproduced. The volume concludes with an essay by Renaissance Studies expert, Gordon Campbell, on the first edition of the King James Bible.

The four hundredth anniversary of the publication of the King James Bible will be a major event, with celebrations held all over the world. This beautiful Anniversary Edition will make an elegant keepsake with which to remember this event as well as a marvelous gift for anyone interested in the Bible.

Review by Tony Nash, Booktopia's CEO

"I have one of these special edition bibles in my hands right now. As I let it slide out of its slipcase I can feel the quality of the reproduction and publishing from all angles. The actual slipcase is sturdy and regal. The book itself is beautifully bound with the most exquisite gilt edge on the pages running across the top, side and bottom of the book that is so shiny you almost think you are looking at a bar of gold when the book is closed. When you open the book and start seeing the pages for the first time you realise you are looking at a beautiful reproduction of the King James Bible from 400 years ago. However, it is not a facsimile replica as the publisher Oxford University Press, has gone for a Roman font that is more easily read in the 21st century rather than the old black-letter type which made the M, N and U look quite similar. However, it is a book of beauty as well as an important religious book. For any collector of books with a focus on religious artifacts it is a must and for any practicing Christian that follows the faith drawn from the King James Bible then this will book will be held with the highest regard and most likely be one book that will be handed down from generation to generation to come. We will try and hold stock at all times but as it is a limited edition it will run out so please place an order as soon as possible.
