QNAP TS-231K 2 Bay NAS

The TS-231 2-Bay Home and SOHO NAS Server from Qnap is a high performance and high capacity NAS server for SOHO, home, workgroup, and SMB users that is compatible with Windows, Mac, Linux, and UNIX. The TS-231 runs the QTS 4.1 operating system and is able to function as a NAS for data backup, file synchronization, remote access, and home entertainment. It is also well suited for the creation and use of a personal cloud so you to access your data from anywhere. Using services such as DLNA, AirPlay, and more it is possible to stream your multimedia library. The TS-231 is also able to perform on-the-fly and offline video transcoding, including Full HD 1920x1080 content.

The TS-231 is powered by a 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 Dual-Core processor, which will allow you to run multiple functions simultaneously. The built-in 512MB of RAM will allow quick access to frequently-used files and programs, and network connectivity is achieved via the 2x Gigabit Ethernet ports.

The 2-bay enclosure has the ability to natively house both 3.5" or 2.5" SATA III and SATA II hard drives or SSD drives. To support both drive formats, screws are included to accommodate both drive sizes. Read and write speed of the TS-231 can reach up to 110 MB/s and 80 MB/s respectively, and data transfer speeds with AES 256-bit encryption can reach over 30 MB/s.

The TS-231 operates on 100-240 VAC and includes 1 x Ethernet cable, 12 x 2.5" HDD flat head screws, 16 x 3.5" HDD flat head screws, an AC adapter, and a power cord.

Equipped with powerful yet energy-efficient 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 Dual-Core processor and 512MB of RAM, the TS-231 is a high-performance NAS for workgroups and SOHO providing performance of up to 110 MB/s read and 80 MB/s write throughput. The TS-231's enhanced hardware-based encryption and decryption engine provides transfer speeds of over 30 MB/s with AES-256 bit full NAS volume encryption, boosting system performance & security while helping to ensure the safety of sensitive personal data stored in the TS-231. You can also use the TS-231 as a multimedia center to watch media content while downloading or backing up files without impacting the TS-231's performance. When installed with the latest 802.11ac or dual-band 2.4 GHz/5 GHz 802.11n Wi-Fi USB adapter, the TS-231 can offer high speeds for transferring large amount of files and streaming bandwidth-consuming multimedia

The TS-231 supports multiple port-trunking modes, enabling IT administrators to set up link aggregation to increase total data transmission capability. Failover and dual IP are also supported to ensure continuous system operations. The supported port-trunking modes include Balance-rr (Round-Robin), Active Backup, Balance XOR, Broadcast, IEEE 802.3ad, Balance-tlb (Adaptive Transmit Load Balancing), and Balance-alb (Adaptive Load Balancing)

QTS

Thanks to the QTS user interface, system operations of the TS-231 are smooth and handy. Its desktop allows you to find desired functions quickly, create desktop shortcuts or group shortcuts, monitor important system information on a real-time basis, and open multiple application windows to run multiple tasks concurrently

Notes Station

The TS-231 supports multiple port-trunking modes, enabling IT administrators to set up link aggregation to increase total data transmission capability. The Notes Station 2.0 supports PDF file import/export, RSS live feeds, snapshots for version control, online preview for attached multimedia files, AES 256-bit encryption for notes, and the ability to back up & modify Evernote notes. It also allows inviting other users to read or edit notes for productive communication and teamwork, and supports organizing calendars and to-do's from each note in one place for easy access.

USB 3.0 Ports

Equipped with three SuperSpeed USB 3.0 ports, the TS-231 allows you to arrange tasks with a wide range of external devices without interrupting your current workflow. You can back up files to USB drives, access data stored on SD cards via USB card readers, share up to 3 printers via your network, and connect to a UPS to ensure a continual power supply

Backup Solutions

The front panel USB port features a one-touch-copy function for you to back up data on external drives to the TS-231 or alternatively to back up data from the TS-231 to external drives. QNAP's NetBak Replicator supports real-time and scheduled data backup for Windows (including Outlook email archiving), and Mac OS X users can use Time Machine to back up data to the TS-231. A wide range of third-party backup software such as Acronis True Image and Symantec Backup Exec are also supported

By setting an automatic transcoding folder, the TS-231 will automatically convert the videos in this folder to a range of resolutions for use on many different devices and internet speeds.
