About
We have invited award-winning quilters to share projects, techniques and their amazing award-winning quilts. We also share some of the winning quilts from Australia's most auspicious quilt shows. During the Covid lockdowns of 2021, Australia lost one of its most loved and skilled quilters. Di Ford Hall was known to many, particularly in Victoria where she lived, but also around Australia and the world. Her warm personality and her amazing design skills were well-loved, we share a look back at Di's life on page 102. Of course, Di's fabric ranges were also well-loved. The last quilt she worked on was Windermere, made in her Windermere fabric range. This range was printed in 2018, and is still popular, so we invited Keryn Emmerson to design a quilt using Di's fabrics. Keryn lovingly designed a frame (medallion) quilt inspired by Di's range and her love of the traditional British-quilt style. You can find the project on page 90, it is a big undertaking, but it is certainly worth the effort.
Including the British Frame Quilt by Keryn Emmerson, there are four quilt projects: Snow Blooms by Deirdre Bond-Able, Florabunda by Lyn Keogh and Corners in the Desert by Michelle Marvig. These projects share a wide range of styles and techniques, and each one is splendid in its own way. Three well-known textile artists, Gloria Loughman, Sue de Vanny and Caroline Sharkey, share a Technique Workshop with you to add to your skills. Last, but not least, we review a number of books by Australian quilters and we share images from five fabric ranges designed by talented Australian designers. Every page of this issue is bursting with colour, design, inspiration and information.
